LAGOS, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- Nigerian police said on Wednesday they had arrested 56 suspected criminals, including kidnappers and armed bandits in the northern state of Borno.
Mohammed Aliyu, the police chief in charge of the state, told reporters in Maiduguri, capital of the state, that the suspects were apprehended at different times and locations in the past one month.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that most of the suspects were adolescent, calling on parents to ensure proper monitoring and moral upbringing of their children, to check crimes in the society.
The police chief reiterated the commitment of the police to protect lives and property, and called on the people to provide credible information to the police to enhance security in the state.
