MOSCOW, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- The parliaments of Russia and Vietnam are seeking to increase exchanges to facilitate cooperation in various fields between the two countries, their speakers said on Wednesday.

Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of the Russian State Duma or the lower house of the parliament, and Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, head of Vietnam's National Assembly, made the remarks during their talks held here a day ahead of the first meeting of the Russia-Vietnam Inter-Parliamentary Commission on cooperation between the two parliaments.

"We need, using the new format of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission, to study, among other things, issues related to increasing mutual trade, implementing key projects and increasing investments on a reciprocal basis," Volodin was cited as saying by a Duma statement.

Ngan stressed her country's intention of continuing cooperation with Russia in power generation projects and other areas.

Russia and Vietnam signed the agreement to establish the Inter-parliamentary Commission in December 2018.

The agenda of the Commission's first meeting includes issues such as the development of relations between Russia and Vietnam, and legislative support for bilateral cooperation in the fields of energy, security, digital economy, regional cooperation as well as cultural exchanges.
