SYDNEY, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Australian surged against the greenback on Thursday, reaching a one-month high as the U.S. currency fell.
At 07:00 (AEST), the Australian dollar was buying 68.75 U.S. cents up from 68.15 U.S. cents on Wednesday.
"U.S. yields and the U.S. dollar fell and equities bounced as the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) kept rates steady as expected," Westpac Bank economists said in a morning note.
"Outperformer AUD/USD rose steadily through London trade, up to 68.65 U.S. cents when the FOMC statement was released, then extending as high as 68.89 U.S. cents."
At 09:00 (AEST), the local unit was buying 68.77 U.S. cents. Enditem
