WARSAW, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Polish striker Robert Lewandowski said he hoped that after beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 in Champions League on Wednesday Bayern will return to winning ways in the German Bundesliga.

The team coached by Hansi Flick suffered two consecutive defeats as they lost in Leverkusen against Bayer and then the German champions failed to contain Borussia Moenchengladbach, who sit top with seven points more than Bayern.

"Two league defeats certainly hurt. In the first half Gladbach didn't even see our goal, we should win high, but we lost. I hope that two consecutive loses will be a good lesson for us and we will just win by the end of the year to cut the gap to the leader," said Lewandowski in an interview for Polsat Sport on Wednesday.

"In recent years, we won the Bundesliga title without problems, we had to at most one worthy opponent, now the situation is different, but I think it can only strenghten us," added the attacker.

Lewandowski saw the game against Tottenham from the bench, as coach Hansi Flick let him rest. "I agreed with his decision, I needed a break, especially that we have very intesive calendar, in which we play game every three days. The rest will be definitely good for me and it can have a good impact on my form," claimed the player.

On Saturday Bayern will face Werder Bremen. Currently the Bavarians are in 7th position with 24 points.
