DOHA, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Thursday met with the visiting Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, with the two sides agreeing to boost cooperation, the Qatari royal court said in a statement.

The two leaders exchanged views on regional and international development, and discussed the Kuala Lumpur Summit 2019 scheduled for Dec. 19, which Sheikh Tamim will attend upon the invitation of Malaysia.

The two leaders also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries' governments on the establishment of a high-level joint committee.

Mahathir attended a roundtable discussion earlier on Thursday held by Qatar Chamber, where he reviewed economic, trade and investment relations between the two countries and opportunities available for both Qatari and Malaysian businessmen.

Mahathir arrived in Doha on Wednesday for a four-day visit to Qatar.
