BEIJING, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- A newly revised version of the professional code of ethics for Chinese journalists was published on Sunday.

The code said journalists must stick to a people-centered approach at work, respond to people's concerns and expectations in a timely manner and strengthen and improve oversight through public opinion.

Journalists should try to report and verify stories on the front lines, making sure their reports are true, accurate, comprehensive and objective, said the code.

Online reports should also follow the same rules, the code added.

The code highlighted the importance of innovation, encouraging journalists to follow the rules of news broadcasting and communication on both traditional media and new media platforms.

The code urged journalists to break free from the old mindset and make full use of new technologies and applications online.

Journalists should raise awareness of the rule of law and act in strict compliance with China's Constitution, laws and regulations, said the code.

The code noted that journalists need to safeguard the country's political and cultural security as well as social stability.

The code also called on journalists to develop an international perspective to better interpret China's path, theory, system and culture, helping the world better understand China.
