Chinese firms take part in annual trade fair in Cambodian capital

PHNOM PENH, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Sixty Chinese companies took part in the 14th Cambodian & Import-Export Exhibition 2019 here Sunday.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the four-day exhibition held at the Diamond Island Exhibition Center, Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Techo Hun Sen said the exhibition was a platform for Cambodian and foreign businessmen to meet and discuss ways to do business with each other.

"I sincerely hope that through the international exhibition today, local and foreign businessmen, entrepreneurs, and investors will clearly understand about investment potential in Cambodia," he said.

According to the prime minister, Cambodia exported products worth 13 billion U.S. dollars to international markets in 2018, remarkably up from 5.7 billion dollars in 2012.

Cambodian Minister of Commerce Pan Sorasak said foreign and domestic companies had displayed their products and services at 372 booths at the event.

"This exhibition is the international-level trade event of Cambodia organized with the intention to boost trade activities, to create market opportunities, and to show business atmosphere, investment potentials, and policy supporting investors in Cambodia," he said.

After the opening ceremony, Sorasak and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wentian visited the China Pavilion, where about 60 Chinese companies exhibited their products and services at around 100 booths.

Chinese exhibitors showcased a variety of products at the event, including textile and footwear products, electronic devices, food, vehicles, construction materials, and machinery, among others.

According to Cambodian government figures, the Cambodia-China trade volume was valued at 6.6 billion dollars in 2018, up from 5.8 billion dollars in a year earlier.
