LUSAKA, Dec. 15 (Xinhua) -- Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Sunday commended the Under-20 national soccer team for emerging victorious during a regional tournament held in the country.
The junior Chipolopolo were crowned champions of the 2019 Cosafa tournament after beating South Africa 3-0 during the finals played on Saturday in Lusaka, the Zambian capital.
The Zambian leader said he was delighted with the lifting of the cup by the junior team especially that it was coming after the Under-17 equally won the regional tournament in October this year.
He hoped the senior national soccer team will take a leaf from the junior teams and qualify to the Africa Cup of Nations finals, he said.
"Football is a uniting force especially when we win. So let's have more of such victories," he said in a release by his office.
