BEIJING, Dec. 18 (Xinhua) -- The following is a summary of published science and technology news of China.

SPACE LAUNCHES

The Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province will host around 20 launch missions in 2020, including two satellites of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS), according to an official from the center.

Wang Zemin, deputy director of the launch center, made the remarks after China successfully sent two BDS satellites into space from Xichang on Monday.

INDUSTRY WASTE REUSE

Chinese researchers have disclosed that the components of the paper industry's waste liquor can be applied in green technology, according to research published in the journal Environmental Science and Technology.

The researchers found that rice seedling growth was promoted by the spent cooking liquor with low molecular weight under the salt stress, but inhibited by a fraction with high molecular weight, said the paper.

5G HANDSET

Chinese tech firm Vivo is stepping up the development of 5G handsets to consolidate its early market lead by rolling out its third smartphone series capable of operating on the superfast wireless network.

Vivo unveiled its flagship 5G handset X30 5G and X30 Pro 5G Monday, which support both standalone and non-standalone 5G networks and will go into mass production. The smartphone series boasts a telephoto periscope lens and is powered by the Exynos 980 processor, a product jointly developed by Vivo and Samsung. Enditem
