ALGIERS, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Algerian President-elect Abdelmadjid Tebboune on Thursday appointed Foreign Minister Sabri Boukadoum to replace Prime Minister Noureddine Bedoui who submitted his resignation.

Bedoui's resignation came a few hours after Tebboune's inauguration.

In addition to appointing Boukadoum as interim prime minister, Tebboune replaced Interior Minister Salaheddine Dahmoune with Housing Minister Kamel Beldjoud.

Tebboune has requested the rest of the cabinet to stay in office as part of a caretaker government pending a new lineup.

Earlier on Thursday, Tebboune was sworn in officially as the 8th president of this North African nation.

The election of Tebboune emerged from 10-month-old public protests which forced former President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to step down in April.

The protesters demanded radical changes and the establishment of the rule of law.

Tebboune vowed to start dialogue with the different players in the protests, pledging to relinquish the old system of governance.
