BEIJING, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese film "Sheep Without a Shepherd" topped the Chinese mainland box office Thursday, according to the China Movie Data Information Network Friday.

The film raked in about 34.57 million yuan (around 4.93 million U.S. dollars) on the seventh day of screening, accounting for 42 percent of the daily total.

The film depicts the story of a father trying to cover up his daughter's crime, who committed manslaughter of a police officer's son, dragging the girl's family into struggles against the police.

It was followed by "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker," the latest installment in the "Star Wars" film franchise, pocketing about 12 million yuan of its second day presales on the mainland.

Coming in third was domestic film "Warriors of Honor," which had grossed about 97.5 million yuan since Dec. 5.
