SHANGHAI, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- The Shanghai Sharks took charge of the last two quarters to outscore the Bayi Rockets 106-93 at home in the 19th round of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) on Friday, ending a five-game losing streak.
Thanks to power forward Wang Tong's consecutive scores, Shanghai took a slight lead in the first quarter, leading 29-26 over Bayi.
Bayi attacked aggressively to answer their opponents, but they outscored Shanghai by only one point in the second quarter, and still remained three points behind.
The third quarter saw a fierce confrontation in the first half, when Shanghai trailed at 63-64 due to the excellent performance of Fu Hao and Tian Yuxiang from Bayi. However, the host team finally surpassed Bayi 77-70 in the last two minutes with three continuous scores by Donatas Motiejunas.
In the last quarter, Bayi's offense seemed less effective despite Motiejunas watched off the court for a short break, losing the chance to cutting the deficit and tie the score.
Motiejunas notched a double-double of 35 points and 22 rebounds for Shanghai, while Fu Hao pocketed Bayi's team-high 25 points with 10 rebounds.
"It's a good thing that we got 27 assists, but we are not fierce enough in defense, and behaved too eager for victory instead," said Shanghai head coach Li Qiuping.
