CARACAS, Dec. 20 (Xinhua) -- Nine people died on Thursday night when a private plane crashed in Venezuela's northern state of Miranda, the country's attorney general, Tarek William Saab, confirmed on Friday.

The nine dead included seven passengers and two crew members.

The King-100 BE10 plane was en route to Caracas from the town of Guasipati in the eastern state of Bolivar when it lost contact with air traffic control at the Oscar Machado Zuloaga Airport in the state of Miranda.

"I want to send my condolences to their families and friends," the attorney general told local media.

The Venezuelan Public Ministry is currently investigating the cause of the crash. The attorney general said he expected to have more news about the events surrounding the crash within the next few hours.
