CHONGQING, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- A passenger cableway across the Yangtze River, China's longest, in southwestern Chongqing Municipality, reopened Sunday after an upgrade, according to its operator.

Its operation was suspended for a month due to annual overhaul. The new model features more glass on the body of the cars and improved transparency to offer better views for tourists, according to Chongqing Passenger Cableway Corporation.

The company has also increased moving space for passengers inside the cars by cutting the maximum number of passengers from 80 to 65.

The style of the cars follows that of the original model first launched in 1987, giving it a vintage look, the company said.

The trip along the 1,166 meter Yangtze cableway takes around 5 minutes. Once a common way for residents to get around in the mountainous city, the cableway has become a well-known tourist site in the city, receiving an average of 10,000 passengers daily and offering an overview of the Yangtze River.
