ADEN, Yemen, Dec. 25 (Xinhua) -- Units of the newly-recruited Yemeni forces on Wednesday continued their large campaign to tighten the security situation in the country's southern port city of Aden.
An official of Aden's local authority told Xinhua on condition of anonymity that "the security forces will continue to be deployed across the city's streets to monitor the situation and combat the terrorist acts."
"All the citizens' vehicles without a license or registration plate are targeted by the security campaign and seized for further investigation," the source said.
He said that "terrorist groups usually use vehicles that are without registration plates to carry out armed attacks or assassinations against the security forces in Aden."
The security campaign advised all the citizens based in Aden to carry their driving license to avoid detention as the security campaign will continue till eradicating the outlaw acts in Aden, according to the official.
Aden citizen Amr Othman praised the security efforts conducted by Aden's security forces and supported by the Saudi Arabia-led coalition to secure the strategic southern city from terrorism.
"The security campaign achieved great results in a short period and we as citizens hope it will be continued as an official program and include all the neighborhoods of Aden province," Othman said.
Akram Mashrky, an official of Aden's newly-recruited security forces, confirmed to Xinhua that" the recent campaign will continue to confront terrorism and corruption till achieving permanent stability and security in Aden."
Earlier this month, the local Yemeni authorities beefed up security measures across the country's strategic southern port city of Aden in an attempt to curb the spike of assassinations in the city.
During the campaign, Aden's security command took a number of decisions, including banning the use of motorcycles and carrying weapons in the southern city.
Aden was plunged into a wave of assassinations and armed attacks conducted by masked gunmen riding motorcycles during the past few weeks.
The motorcycle-riding gunmen used their silenced weapons and killed several security officials in different parts of Aden in separate shooting attacks.
Politicians and high-ranking southern security commanders have been the prime targets in such armed attacks, particularly in Aden and neighboring provinces.
The impoverished Arab country has been locked into a civil war since the Iran-backed Houthis overran much of the country militarily and seized all northern provinces, including the capital Sanaa, in 2014.
Saudi Arabia leads an Arab military coalition in 2015 to support the government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi after Houthis forced him into exile.
