SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) -- A high school in San Francisco Bay Area has confirmed three of its teen boys were killed in a Christmas car crash, with two other teens hospitalized for serious injuries from the accident, local media reported on Saturday.

The three victims were identified as Javier Ramirez and twin brothers Mark Urista and Michael Urista, all of them 16-year-old, who were sophomores of Dublin High School, The Mercury News said.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the five teenagers were in a car traveling southbound on a road late night on Christmas Day when their vehicle swerved across the northbound lane, crashing through a power pole before smashing into a massive tree on the roadside.

The car's driver and the twins died instantly on the spot, and the other two boys were ejected out of the vehicle.

CHP authorities have ruled out drug or alcohol as a cause that led to the mishap during the holiday season. They were probing whether the car was running over speed.
