BISSAU, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- All polling stations were closed at 17:00 local time for the presidential runoff vote in Guinea-Bissau, spokeswoman of the National Election Commission (NEC) Felisberta Moura Vaz announced on Sunday.
Speaking to the press, Vaz denied accusations of fraud on social media.
She said the results would be announced on Jan. 1. She also urged the candidates not to disclose election results, since "the publication of the results is exclusively reserved for the NEC."
The polling stations opened this morning at 7:00 for Guinea-Bissau's 761,676 registered voters to choose the next president of the republic between Domingos Simoes Pereira and Umaro Sissoco Embalo.
The head of the African Union observation mission, Joaquim Rafael Branco, declared in the afternoon no incident was reported in the morning and praised "the civism shown by the people of Guinea-Bissau."
