UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- The United Nations Security Council on Sunday strongly condemned Saturday's terrorist attack in Somali capital Mogadishu that left dozens of people dead.

Terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, the council members said in a statement, stressing the need for all states to combat, by all means, threats by terrorist attacks.

They urged all states to cooperate actively with the government of Somalia and all other relevant authorities in bringing perpetrators, organizers, financiers and sponsors of the acts of terrorism to justice.

The council members also reiterated their determination to support peace, stability and development in Somalia, adding that their determination cannot be weakened by any terrorist attacks.

At least 79 people were killed and 149 more injured in a suicide car bombing at a checkpoint in the outskirts of Mogadishu on Saturday.
