China announce squad for 2020 AFC U-23 Championship

BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- China's U-22 national football team has revealed its final 25-player squad for the upcoming 2020 AFC Under-23 Championship, with Zhu Chenjie leading the team.

Zhu, voted the Chinese Super League's best young player in 2019, joins Guangzhou Evergrande striker Yang Liyu and Shandong Luneng playmaker Duan Liuyu in receiving call-ups from head coach Hao Wei, while Cao Yongjing and Lin Liangming missed the cut.

The championship will be played in Thailand from January 8 to 26, 2020. The top three teams will qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, together with hosts Japan.

China, who qualified for the tournament with an unbeaten record of two wins and one draw, are bracketed in Group C along with defending champions Uzbekistan, Iran and South Korea. Hao Wei's side will open their campaign on January 9 against South Korea.

The full 25-man squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Chen Wei, Li Guanxi, Zhang Yan

Defenders: Tong Lei, Wei Zhen, Zhu Chenjie, Zhao Jianfei, Feng Boxuan, Yang Shuai, Jiang Shenglong, Dilmurat Mawlanyaz

Midfielders: Huang Zhengyu, Huang Cong, Duan Liuyu, Hu Jinghang, Chen Binbin, Zhou Junchen, Huang Zichang, Zhang Lingfeng, Chen Pu, Deng Yubiao

Forwards: Yang Liyu, Zhang Yuning, Tian Xin, Liu Ruofan.
