China ease past Kazakhstan in Tokyo Olympics men's volleyball qualification

JIANGMEN, China, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- China got off to a winning start in the Asian zone of the Tokyo Olympics men's volleyball qualification with a straight-set victory over Kazakhstan here on Tuesday.

The hosts overwhelmed Kazakhstan 25-19, 25-14 and 25-18 in their Group A clash.

Jiang Chuan scored a game-high 16 points including six aces. China recorded 10 points from the service line while Kazakhstan had only three.

"We were under pressure at the beginning of the match, but we managed to handle it well and find our rhythm quickly," China coach Shen Fulin said after the match.

"We have to be 100 percent ready in every match and improve ourselves step by step," the 64-year-old added.

Only the winner of the tournament which feature eight teams - China, Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, Iran, South Korea, Qatar, India and Australia - will secure a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics.
