BANGKOK, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Thai police were scrambling to find and arrest a gunman who fired shots at parked car of a famed police general in downtown Bangkok, National Police spokesman Pol. Lt. Gen. Piya Uthayo said on Tuesday.
The police were collecting pieces of evidence at and around the restaurant in Surawong Road area of Bang Rak district of the capital where the car, owned by former Immigration Bureau chief Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachet Hakparn, was hit with eight gunshots by the gunman riding on a motorcycle driven by his accomplice on Monday.
The police have collected bullets and cartridges from the scene and watched footages of surveillance cameras installed at the restaurant and nearby spots.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachet, who holds an inactive post of adviser to the Prime Minister's Office and is largely viewed as personally close to Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon, was unharmed during the nighttime attack.
In what was seen as a surprise transfer among the police last year, Pol. Lt. Gen. Surachet was immediately moved from the post of police commissioner of the Immigration Bureau to the Prime Minister's Office, sharing such an advisory post with several civilians.
