Tibet to boost development of border areas

LHASA, Jan. 7 (Xinhua) -- Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region will boost the development of its border areas in 2020, said Qizhala, chairman of the regional government.

In his work report delivered at the opening of the 11th People's Congress of Tibet Autonomous Region, Qizhala said that Tibet would start a pilot scheme this year focusing on constructing 30 towns on the border, while pledging to improving the quality of urbanization.

In developing a group of border towns and villages into centers of commerce, logistics hubs or tourist destinations, Tibet will proceed from local conditions, pool strength and resources to upgrade infrastructure, improve public services.

Qizhala also vowed to work hard in vitalizing border areas and enriching residents' lives, developing an economic belt along the border and securing the victory of building moderately prosperous villages on the border.
