KIEV, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Ukrainian Prime Minister Oleksiy Honcharuk said Wednesday that Ukraine is temporarily banning flights to Iran.

Honcharuk made the remarks at a briefing after a Ukrainian airlines' Boeing 737 aircraft crashed early Wednesday near Iran's capital Tehran shortly after takeoff, killing all 176 people aboard.

"We decided to stop operating Ukrainian flights over the territory of Iran until we find out the reasons for the tragedy. We will review the decision once we clarify the details," said the prime minister.

Honcharuk expressed hope for determining the cause of the crash as soon as possible.

Honcharuk added that Ukraine has filed petitions to participate in the investigation into the crash.
