BUDAPEST, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- The 13th Budapest Circus Festival, one of the world's most prestigious such events, opened here on Wednesday.
On Wednesday night, the festival starts with the presentation of the participating artists. This year, the audience will have the opportunity to attend two simultaneous competition programs, while a Newcomer Show will showcase local circus artists.
On Jan. 10, a Lyrical Circus Late Night Show, compiled for this occasion, will be staged.
On the sidelines of the festival, an international conference will be organized under the auspices of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) at the Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest, focusing on current issues in the intellectual cultural heritage of circus art.
A second related event is a technical conference of the European Circus Association, to be held at the Museum of Agriculture, on the education of children of traveling circus families.
The festival will conclude with an award ceremony on Jan. 13.
