Nepal to host int'l fashion runway show above 5,600 meters

KATHMANDU, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Nepal is all set to host the international fashion show in the lap of Mount Qomolangma, the first of its kind in the highest altitude of the world, in the last week of January this year.

The event named as Mount Everest Fashion Runway will be held at 5,644 meters high Kala Patthar, a notable landmark located near the tallest peak of the world, the organizers said here Wednesday.

The fashion show under the theme of "Sustainability" is being held jointly by private companies Kasa and RB Diamond in coordination with the Nepal Tourism Board and Visit Nepal Year 2020 on Jan. 26.

"It's a new concept, it's not just a fashion show but opening of many possibilities," Suraj Vaidya, coordinator of Visit Nepal Year 2020, said in the press meet.

Echoing his statement, Nepal Tourism Board officiating CEO Nandini Lehe Thapa said that the event is a fantastic opportunity to get global attention and to promote the Himalayan country as both tourism and fashion destination.

The event will have the presence of at least 15 supermodels from different countries like Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Ghana, Finland, Italy and Romania among others and five models from Nepal.

The show will be put on for over 30 minutes, which will be also an attempt for the Guinness World Records.
