Second Bulgaria's industrial farm hit by African swine fever in one week

SOFIA, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) on Wednesday evening confirmed a second outbreak of African swine fever in an industrial farm in the country in a week.

A total of 39,656 pigs are raised in the farm, which is located in the village of Brestak in the northeastern part of the country, the agency said in a statement.

All pigs in the farm will be culled, the statement said.

Last Friday, BFSA confirmed an outbreak of African swine fever in an industrial farm with 24,000 pigs in the village of Nikola Kozlevo, 36 km northwest of Brestak.

The first case of African swine fever in domestic pigs in Bulgaria was reported on July 3, 2019, and a total of 42 outbreaks were confirmed until the end of the year. Among them, eight industrial farms with a total of 137,702 pigs were affected between July 19 and Sept. 18. Enditem
