6 arrested in Morocco for links to human trafficking network

RABAT, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- Morocco arrested six people on Thursday in the northeastern cities of Nador and Taourirt for alleged links to a criminal network involved in illegal immigration and human trafficking.

The suspects are aged between 22 and 51, said a statement by Moroccan police.

Six inflatable boats, three powerful engines and three compasses were seized during search operations, the statement added.

During 2019, a total of 62 human trafficking networks were busted, and 505 people involved in human trafficking and migrant smuggling were arrested in Morocco, according to official statistics.
