Jeremy Irons to head jury of 2020 Berlin Int'l Film Festival

BERLIN, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- The acclaimed British film and theatre actor Jeremy Irons will serve as president of the International Jury at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale), the festival management announced on Thursday.

Irons has achieved worldwide recognition in numerous films and TV series including The French Lieutenant's Woman, Kingdom of Heaven, Justice League, and the series Elizabeth I.

He has gained numerous international film honors during his career. For his part in the film Reversal of Fortune, he received both the Golden Globe and the Oscar for Best Actor in 1991. In 2006, he was also awarded a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in the series Elizabeth I.

"With his distinctive style, Jeremy Irons has embodied some iconic characters that have accompanied me throughout my journey in cinema, making me aware of the complexity of human being," commented Carlo Chatrian, the Artistic Director of the Berlinale.

The International Jury is selected every year by the Artistic Director and presents various awards such as the Golden Bear for Best Film and the Silver Bear for Best Actor and Best Actress.

Berlinale 2020 will be held from Feb. 20 to March 1.
