U.S.-listed Chinese firms trade mostly higher

NEW YORK, Jan. 9 (Xinhua) -- U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly higher on Thursday with seven of the top 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on an upbeat note.

Shares of TAL Education Group and NetEase gained 3.75 percent and 2.22 percent, respectively, leading the advancers in the top 10 stocks in the index.

Shares of Pinduoduo and ZTO Express slid 2.07 percent and 0.39 percent, respectively, leading the decliners in the top 10 stocks.

U.S. stocks finished higher on Thursday as market mood was lifted after President Donald Trump downplayed Iran's missile attack against U.S. forces in Iraq.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 211.81 points, or 0.74 percent, to 28,956.90. The S&P 500 increased 21.65 points, or 0.67 percent, to 3,274.70. The Nasdaq Composite Index rose 74.18 points, or 0.81 percent, to 9,203.43.

The Cboe Volatility Index, widely considered the best fear gauge in the stock market, dropped 6.77 percent to 12.54 on Thursday.

As of Wednesday, the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index stood at 3,350.40, marking a 5.78-percent increase for the month-to-date returns and a 5.78-percent gain for the year-to-date returns. Enditem
