Hubei's GDP up 7.8 pct in 2019

In 2020, Hubei aims to achieve GDP growth of around 7.5 percent.

WUHAN, Jan. 12 (Xinhua) -- China's Hubei province reported GDP of over 4 trillion yuan (about 578 billion U.S. dollars) in 2019, with a year-on-year growth of around 7.8 percent.

According to the government work report delivered Sunday at the annual session of the provincial people's congress, the per capita disposable income of urban and rural residents grew about 9.1 percent and 9.4 percent, respectively.

In 2020, Hubei aims to achieve GDP growth of around 7.5 percent.

While upgrading its traditional industries such as automobiles and food, the province will also boost the development of sectors including integrated circuits, optical communication, intelligent connected vehicles and digital economy in 2020.

"Digital economy is the main battlefield for future development and competition. Hubei should not only consolidate its position as a transportation hub but also strive to become an important data hub," said Wang Xiaodong, governor of Hubei.
