NEW YORK, Jan. 13 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks opened higher on Monday amid solid gains in Tesla shares.
Shortly after the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 16.13 points, or 0.06 percent, to 28,839.90. The S&P 500 was up 4.75 points, or 0.15 percent, to 3,270.10. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 27.30 points, or 0.30 percent, to 9,206.16.
Tesla shares climbed more than 4 percent shortly after opening, contributing to the market increase.
U.S. equities notched solid gains in the week ending Jan. 10 after volatile trading as Wall Street digested geopolitical pressure stemming from tensions between Washington and Tehran, as well as a slew of economic data.
For the week, the Dow climbed 0.70 percent, the S&P 500 was up 0.94 percent and the Nasdaq advanced 1.75 percent. Enditem
