S.Korea posts trade surplus for 95 months

SEOUL, Jan. 15 (Xinhua) -- South Korea posted trade surplus for 95 straight months through December on a slower fall in export, customs office data showed Wednesday.

The revised figure for trade surplus amounted to 2.0 billion U.S. dollars in December, staying in black for 95 months since February 2012, according to Korea Customs Service.

Export, which takes up about half of the South Korean economy, declined 5.2 percent over the year to 45.7 billion dollars in December.

The outbound shipment kept sliding for 13 straight months, but fall in December figure was slower than a 14.4-percent reduction in November.

Import fell 0.7 percent from a year earlier to 43.7 billion dollars in December.

For the whole year of 2019, the export diminished 10.3 percent from the previous year to 542.3 billion dollars.

Import shed 6.0 percent to 503.3 billion dollars last year, sending the trade surplus to 39.0 billion dollars.
