RAMALLAH, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- An official of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) on Saturday accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of advancing land annexation plans in the West Bank for bigger chances of winning the election.

"If the perpetual occupation/annexation plan of Netanyahu and (U.S. Ambassador to Israel David) Friedman is released before the Israeli elections, it means green light to Netanyahu to begin the annexation of the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea shores, then say: I got you Jerusalem, Golan Heights, Jordan Valley, vote for me," tweeted Saeb Erekat, secretary general of the PLO.

"The whole Middle East can burn if Netanyahu can be re-elected," he warned.

Last November, Netanyahu vowed to annex parts of the West Bank and impose Israeli sovereignty over settlements in the occupied territory, right after U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Washington no longer views Jewish settlements in the West Bank as illegal.
