GAZA, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Islamic Hamas movement on Sunday denied any tensions with Egypt following a visit by the movement's chief Ismail Haniyeh to Iran for the funeral of Qassem Soliemani.

"The relationship with Egypt is pivotal and stable, with constant cooperation and coordination in all fields," said Haniyeh's media advisor Taher al-Nunu.

Al-Nunu stressed the importance of the relationship between Hamas and Egypt due to the latter's significant geographical location and central role in the Palestinian cause, in addition to sponsoring several files related to Gaza Strip.

Some media reported that the resumption of incendiary balloons from Gaza since a few days ago was due to tensions with Cairo after Haniyeh's visit to Tehran.

On Dec. 2, Haniyeh left for his first foreign tour since he was elected chief of Hamas in 2017. He has been to Egypt, Turkey, Qatar, Iran and Oman.

Egypt, the UN and Qatar have been mediating for over a year the introduction of humanitarian aid into Gaza and preventing military confrontation between Palestinian factions and Israel.
