LAUSANNE, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's Lee Jeong-min and Jang Sung-woo claimed gold and silver respectively in the men's 500m short track speed skating at the Winter Youth Olympic Games here on Monday.

The South Koreans were behind China's Zhang Tianyi at the first few laps, but they dominated the final laps and ranked top two eventually.

Lee Jeong-min, the runner-up in the men's 1,000m, finished first in 40.772 seconds, followed by Jang Sung-woo in 41.000 and Zhang in 48.570.

"This was not the first time that I meet the two South Korean skaters. I competed with them on Saturday's match. But still, I didn't perform well today," said Zhang in frustration.

As for his fall after being overtaken, he said that was an accident. "I was kind of anxious at that time. And my skates hit the ice," the 15-year-old explained.

The mixed team relay is scheduled on Wednesday. Enditem
