TIRANA, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) -- Women in Albania are more likely than men to undergo regular medical checkups, the Compulsory Healthcare Insurance Fund (ISKSH) state agency said here on Tuesday.

According to statistics released by the agency on social media on the basic medical checks of men and women in Albania conducted between 2015 and 2019, last year a total of 192,129 men and 290,587 women attended such an examination.

The respective figures in 2018 were 169,224 and 259,667.

The basic medical checkup is offered as part of a national program aimed at checking the population in order to prevent diseases, providing early-stage treatment and improving health culture among citizens in the 35-70 age group.

The ISKSH is the only public institution that finances medical services in accordance with Albania's national health care policies.
