LAUSANNE, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Russia defeated the United States 4-0 to win the gold medal of men's ice hockey at the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games on Wednesday.

Matvei Michkov, who is projected as a top pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, finished with two goals and one assist. The 15-year-old scored nine goals during the tournament.

Russia have outscored their opponents 29-3 in four games at Lausanne 2020 while the USA failed to become the first men's team to defend the title.

Michkov broke the deadlock with a power-play goal and extend the lead to 2-0 in the first period. The Americans suffered with short-handed again in the second period, sawing Gazizov made it 3-0 from Michkov's assist.

The USA were hungry for geting back in the game but Vyacheslav Malov sealed the victory for Russia, who lost to the USA in the semifinals at Lillehammer 2016.

In the earlier match for bronze medal, Canada opened up a 3-0 lead in the first quarter to edge Finland 4-2. Enditem
