RAMALLAH, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Israeli settlers set on fire on Tuesday one of the classrooms at a Palestinian school near the northern West Bank city of Nablus and painted anti-Arab graffiti on its walls, Palestinian security officials said.

Spokesman of the Palestinian Authority Ministry of Education Saqed al-Khadour said in a press statement that the ministry condemns the settlers' act and considers it "an awful crime."

Al-Khadour told Xinhua that the fire caused severe damage in the classroom, adding that the ministry calls on international rights groups "to bear a responsibility and protect the Palestinian pupils from the Israeli settlers' assaults."

There has been no immediate Israeli comment on the incident.
