GAZA, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Islamic Hamas movement, ruler of the Gaza Strip, rejected on Tuesday U.S. President Donald Trump's announced peace plan for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, saying Jerusalem must be the capital of the future Palestinian state.
"The Deal of the Century is nonsense trivia. It is a hostile deal. The Palestinians will exert all possible efforts, and use all means to confront it until it is toppled," said Khalil al-Hayya, a senior Hamas leader, in a statement to Doha-based Al-Jazeera news channel.
"Trump is forging the reality and the history," said al-Hayya, accusing Trump of attempting to rescue Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from corruption charges ahead of the upcoming Israeli elections.
Earlier, Hamas said in a statement that the Palestinian unity is essential at this stage and that Hamas is ready to work with all factions to topple the plan.
The internal Palestinian division between Hamas and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah party has continued since Hamas violently took over the Gaza Strip from Abbas' security forces in the summer of 2007.
