TAIPEI, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- Taiwan on Friday confirmed the tenth infection of the novel coronavirus that caused pneumonia.

The patient was the husband of the ninth confirmed case and had returned from Wuhan, the center of the epidemic, on Jan. 12, the island's epidemic monitoring agency said at a press conference.

He had been misdiagnosed as normal flu on Jan. 22 due to having no symptoms of pneumonia, the agency said.

After his wife was found infected by the virus Thursday, he was sent to have further medical examination and confirmed the infection Friday, the agency said, adding that all people having close contacts with the couple have been quarantined at home and currently showed no symptoms.

In face of increasing demand of face masks, the island's justice authority warned individuals and organizations against hoarding the masks and intentional price hike or they may face a maximum penalty of seven-year imprisonment.
