HANGZHOU, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- Using artificial intelligence technology, Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has assisted law enforcement authorities in the crackdown on the production and sale of fake face masks.
Since late January, Chinese law enforcement authorities have handled over 10 cases involved with producing and selling fake masks with the help of Alibaba.
Among the cases, on Jan. 31, Alibaba helped the market supervision department of southwestern China's Chongqing Municipality bust a fake mask sales case. Two suspects were arrested for selling more than 20,000 fake masks, involving about 200,000 yuan (28,500 U.S. dollars).
To help fight against the epidemic of the novel coronavirus, Alibaba strengthened qualification examinations on face masks and other protective commodities by using an algorithm and other AI technologies.
Commodities will be removed from the e-commerce platform and shops will be closed if Alibaba finds any false advertisements or suspected fake and shoddy products.
