TEHRAN, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said that the EU will extend indefinitely the time limit to resolve disputes in 2015 Iranian landmark nuclear deal, Press TV reported on Tuesday.

"We are all in agreement not to go directly to a strict time limit which would oblige us to go to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC)," visiting Borrell was quoted as saying.

"Our will is not to start a process that ends the JCPOA (the nuclear deal), but keeps it alive," he said.

On Jan. 14, Britain, France and Germany (E3) said that they have taken a step to trigger dispute resolution mechanism in the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran in response as Tehran has backed off nuclear commitments over the past months.

Iran, however, had said that its withdrawal from practical commitments under the JCPOA is a reaction to the U.S. exit from the deal in May 2018 and the subsequent sanctions, and it is also a response to the Europe's sluggishness in facilitating Iran's banking transactions and its oil exports.

Iran also had said that the cut of obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal was a "wake-up call" for the remaining parties of the deal to protect Iran's economic interests.

Borrell arrived in Tehran on Monday for talks on a range of issues with senior Iranian officials, including recent developments pertaining to Iranian nuclear program.
