LUANDA, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- A polytechnic fisheries institute was inaugurated in Luanda, capital city of Angola, on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister of Fisheries and Sea, Maria Antonieta Baptista, said the 98 million U.S. dollars project was funded by Spain.
The Fisheries Polytechnic Institute complies with the UN conservation and sustainable use of the country's oceans, seas and fishing resources, said Baptista.
The complex, which occupies more than five hectares of land, is located close to the sea. It comprises rooms for theoretical-practical classes, laboratories, a library, technical simulation workshops, a real radio station and simulators of the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS).
With the latest technology alongside the partnership of similar Spanish schools, the institute is expected to be a competent authority with national and international prestige, she said.
The institute, the first of its kind in Luanda, will guarantee the teaching of the hygiene requirements of the production chain, the commercialization of aquatic food products and the provision of quality services, the official underlined.
In the current academic year, the institute opens with 1,836 students. Enditem
