RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Colombia international midfielder Fredy Guarin has ended speculation about his future by signing a new two-year contract with Vasco da Gama.

The Brazilian Serie A club confirmed the deal on social media after protracted talks between Guarin's representatives and Vasco officials in Rio de Janeiro.

"What's up, Vasco fans? I'm Fredy Guarin. I want to send you a hug," the 33-year-old said in a video posted on the club's Twitter account. "I'm very happy to renew my contract. Let's stick together."

Guarin made 12 top flight appearances for Vasco and scored three goals after arriving from Chinese Super League club Shanghai Shenhua on a three-month contract last September.

The former Porto and Inter Milan player, who has been capped 57 times for Colombia, is expected to resume training next week.

Vasco finished 12th in the 20-team Brazilian Serie A standings in 2019, 41 points behind champions Flamengo.
