WUHAN, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- The city of Huanggang stricken by the novel coronavirus in central China's Hubei Province has put affected residential units on lockdown to contain the epidemic.

The local epidemic control headquarters has required the lockdown of residential units where four categories of people live, namely confirmed novel coronavirus patients, suspected cases, fever patients not excluded from being infected and close contacts in self-monitored quarantine at home.

The headquarters said the lockdown can only be lifted when there are no new confirmed cases in the residential units, the fever patients are excluded from infection or the close contacts are removed from quarantine within a two-week observation period.

Meanwhile, strict epidemic prevention and control measures have been implemented to manage residential communities and rural residential areas that have not been affected by the coronavirus.

Neighboring the provincial capital Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak, Huanggang is one of the cities worst hit by the epidemic. As of Saturday, Huanggang had reported 2,141 confirmed infection cases.
