DAR ES SALAAM, Feb. 13 (Xinhua) -- At least five pupils were killed and one seriously injured in a road accident in Tanzania's southern region of Ruvuma, police said on Thursday.
Simon Maigwa, Ruvuma regional police commander, said the pupils were knocked down on Wednesday at 2 p.m. by a car after it veered off the road at Madaba in Songea district.
"The area was slippery following a downpour. The car failed its breaks because of the slippery condition, knocking down the pupils who were walking on the left hand side of the road," he told a news conference.
Maigwa said police were hunting for the driver of the car who disappeared after the accident.
