DAMASCUS, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- The Turkish forces shot down a Syrian military helicopter in the countryside of Aleppo province in northern Syria on Friday, killing two pilots, a war monitor reported.

The helicopter was downed by a missile northwest of Aleppo, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

The Britain-based watchdog group said the bodies of two pilots were found fully mutilated.

The Syrian Army confirmed the attack, saying it took place over an area where Turkey-backed militias are present, adding that the crew members were all killed.

It's the second helicopter shot down by the Turkish forces within days.

On Feb. 11, three Syrian pilot fighters were killed when the Turkish forces downed a Syrian helicopter in the northwestern province of Idlib.

These incidents come amid heightened tension between Damascus and Ankara on the heels of the Syrian military operation against the Turkey-backed rebels in Idlib and Aleppo provinces.
