NEW DELHI, Feb. 15 (Xinhua) -- The annual Board Examinations began on Saturday across India, with over 3.1 million students studying in Grade-10th (around 16 years old) and in Grade-12th (around 18 years old) sitting the exams.

The Board Examinations will continue till March 30.

Question papers of the Board Examinations are set by the Central Board of Secondary Examinations (CBSE), and the answer sheets are evaluated by teachers appointed by the Board.

Students sitting for Board Examinations put in an extra effort throughout the year in a bid to score best possible grades, as the results assume a special significance in the Indian education system.

According to CBSE's Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj, there were nearly 30,000 different combinations of subjects that the students of Grades 10th and 12th had opted for this year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi appealed to students to prepare for the examinations while being stress-free.

"As the CBSE Class X and XII exams commence today, best wishes to all young Exam Warriors, their parents and teachers. I urge my young friends to appear for the exams in a happy and stress-free manner. Months of hard-work and preparation will surely lead to great things!" tweeted Modi on Saturday.
