MINSK, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Belarusian gross domestic product (GDP) decreased by 1.9 percent in January 2020, the National Statistical Committee of Belarus said Monday.
Belarus' GDP amounted to 10.39 billion rubles (4.73 billion U.S. dollars) in January 2020, which was 1.9 percent less than in January 2019, official statistics showed.
In January 2020, industrial production decreased by 5.8 percent to 8.5 billion rubles, agricultural production increased by 4.5 percent to 957.3 million rubles, and investment in fixed assets decreased by 3.2 percent to 1.53 billion rubles, the committee said.
Experts said a decrease in petrochemicals output amid problems with Russian oil supplies, as well as a decline in potash fertilizer production, caused economic contraction.
In 2019, Belarus' GDP grew by 1.2 percent after growing 3 percent in 2018 and 2.4 percent in 2017. Enditem
