BEIJING, Feb. 18 (Xinhua) -- A total of 455 million Chinese read online literature in 2019, according to an industry report released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Tuesday.

The report summarized three major changes in China's online literature industry in 2019: improving quality, more focus on realistic genres and growing overseas presence.

Favorable national policies have provided guidance and helped China's online literature improve quality, said the report.

A large number of online literature works of realistic genres emerged in the past year, including those depicting the achievements made since the founding of the People's Republic of China or the start of the reform and opening up, according to the report.

More Chinese online literature works found overseas readers in 2019, with online literature works accounting for half of the top 20 most-liked Chinese intellectual properties overseas, said the report.

More than 11.7 million Chinese online literature works and over 7.8 million writers have laid a solid foundation for the overseas popularity, it said.
